DESCRIPTION:In an era of benchmarking\, rankings and competition\, the lat
est roles of academic journals have been changed by outside forces. Editor
s often try to resist the pressures to play in the gatekeeping and certifi
cation game. Can they resist? Are they viable counter-currents in which su
ch concepts as “intellectual life” and “pursuit of knowledge” and
“scholarship as a vocation” do not arouse bemusement? Come to find out
from each other and tell the editor of the Comparative Education Review o
 n 12th July.
