DESCRIPTION:This innovative roundtable discussion will draw on the experti
se of curators\, filmmakers\, academics and museum professionals to explor
e what both real films and the ‘imaginary film’ of the spaces of the F
itzwilliam Museum might look like. This exciting event will also give a ra
re opportunity to see films made in the Fitzwilliam Museum\, within the ga
lleries of the Museum itself.\n\nInspired by the cultural critic André Ma
lraux's idea of the Museum without Walls\, or the ‘imaginary museum’\,
the roundtable will turn the idea of an imaginary museum on its head once
again. If Malraux's idea of the museum is one produced by pathways in the
imagination\, what would a version of that imaginary space look like in f
ilm? What would that ‘imaginary film’ be?\n\nThe roundtable will explo
re such questions as:\n\nWhat would the imaginary film of works in a parti
cular gallery in the Fitzwilliam Museum do? What kinds of visual and cultu
ral narratives would it tell?\nWhat exploratory links could this imaginary
film make between the spaces of the Museum\, the art works of that space\
, the dialogues between works hung in the space\, and the relationships be
tween the medium of the art works and the medium of film itself?\nChaired
by Jenny Chamarette (Research Fellow\, University of Cambridge). \n\nRound
table speakers include:\n\nCatherine Derosier-Pouchous (Head of Cultural P
roduction\, Louvre Museum)\nJane Munro (Senior Assistant Keeper\, Painting
 s\, Drawings & Prints\, Fitzwilliam Museum)\nAngela Dalle Vacche (Professo
r of Film Studies\, Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta and author
of Cinema and Painting: How Art is Used in Film)\nIan White (former Adjunc
t Curator of Film at the Whitechapel Art Gallery and co-author of KinoMuse
um: Towards an Artists’ Cinema)\nGrahame Weinbren (artist and filmmaker\
, works commissioned for the National Gallery of Art\, Washington DC and t
 he New York Guggenheim Museum)
