DESCRIPTION:Although we are large multi-cellular organisms with a long lif
espan cancers form relatively rarely suggesting there are many growth cont
rols checkpoints that restrain tumourigenesis. A corollary to this is that
in most cancer types there are a limited number of genes that are frequen
tly mutated but also many other genes that have been identified as potenti
ally contributing to tumourigenesis. How these genes interact to drive tum
our formation\, the sequence of mutations required for tumour formation\,
and the complete repertoire of cancer driver genes is largely unknown. In
this talk I will give several examples of how we are using the mouse to id
entify cancer driver genes and to understand how they interact in driving
 tumour formation.
