 nsport issues have always made local headlines. This talk explores the rea
 sons for (and the results of) successive transport innovations in Cambridg
 e and the surrounding area\, including the street tramways\, the attempts 
 from the 1920s to the present day to adapt the city to the motor vehicle\,
  and the changing role of the railways. Tony Kirby was formerly Co-ordinat
 or of Strategic Planning for Anglia Ruskin University\, and remains an Hon
 orary Research Fellow. He is a former President of the Cambridge Antiquari
 an Society and Chair of the Cambridgeshire Records Society.\n
