DESCRIPTION:In dose escalation studies\, the potential ethical costs of ad
ministering high doses must be weighted against the added utility from gai
ning safety information about high (and potentially effective doses). This
is the rationale for starting with low doses while the confidence in the
safety of the drug is low\, and escalating to higher doses as confidence g
row. A decision theoretical framework is proposed.\n
