DESCRIPTION:Health economic applications of discrete choice experiments ha
ve generally used generic forced choice experimental designs\, or to a les
ser extent generic designs with an appended status quo or opt out option.
Each has implications for the types of indirect utility functions that can
be estimated from such designs. Less attention has been paid to allowing
for alternative specific choice experiments. This paper focuses on the dev
elopment and use of an experimental design that allows for both labelled a
lternatives and alternative specific attribute effects in the context of a
best worst choice study designed to investigate preferences for different
types of drinking water. Results including testing for alternative specif
ic effects and preferences for different types of drinking water options a
 re presented\, with implications explored.\n\n\n
