DESCRIPTION:*About Seminar:*\n\n\nThe world may have changed beyond recogn
ition in the last three decades\, but children haven’t changed at all. F
or healthy development\, they still need the same basic ingredients that h
ave helped lucky children through the ages grow up bright\, balanced and f
it to face the challenges of adult life.\n\n*Is 21st century life damaging
our children?* Huge changes in adult lifestyles have affected the way we
look after children\, both at home and in school. This seminar - based on
the 12 years’ research behind Toxic Childhood\, 21st Century Boys\, and
21st Century Girls - looks at how a toxic mix of side-effects of social an
d cultural change is affecting the development of a growing number of chil
dren.\n\nThe seminar also considers the way modern lifestyles impact diffe
rently on boys and girls\, driving a gender gap which is damaging to the c
hildren themselves and society as a whole. Commercial forces unite with pe
er pressure to push girls towards an objectified sexuality at an increasin
gly early age\, and boys towards computer games and internet porn. With vi
rtual communication substituting for real life interaction even among pre-
teen children\, young people are less well-equipped to communicate face to
face\, making relationships between them and between them and adults incr
easingly fragile.\n\nThis groundbreaking seminar – aimed at parents\, te
achers and anyone interested in the welfare of young people – offers con
cerned adults suggestions for tackling the social\, cultural and education
al factors underlying these modern developments\, to help all children gro
w up *bright*\, *balanced* and *confident* to reach their full potential.
\n\n*About Instructor:*\n\nSue Palmer has written more than 250 books\, ed
ucational TV programmes and software packages on aspects of literacy and m
odern childhood. She is the author of the revolutionary book Toxic Childho
od: How The Modern World Is Damaging Our Children And What We Can Do About
It. Please visit "her website http://www.suepalmer.co.uk":http://www.suep
 almer.co.uk for more information.\n\n*About Organiser:*\n\nThe seminar is
organised by Muslim Education & Outreach Cambridge (MEOC) which is a chari
table voluntary organisation based in Cambridge\, England. This seminar is
for all concerned adults\, not just for Muslims. Sue Palmer will be talki
ng about issues and solution that are relevant to everyone. At the end of
the seminar there will be a 1-hour bonus lecture by an Islamic scholar on
aspects of raising healthy\, confident and well-rounded children in Islam.
