DESCRIPTION:The Galileon model has proved of great interest to the study o
f both inflation and the late time accelerated expansion of the universe.
The model is also closely connected to new\, and ghost free\, theories of
massive gravity. It is potentially worrying\, however\, that superlumina
l fluctuations are quite generic in these models\, and it has been specula
ted that such superluminal fluctuations could be used to build closed time
-like curves.\nGeneral relativity contains a mechanism\, known as the Hawk
ing Chronology Protection Conjecture\, which prevents the formation of clo
sed time-like curves. I will review how this occurs\, and show that the m
echanism can be extended to theories\, such as the Galileon\, which have m
ore than one effective metric and superluminal fluctuations.
