SUMMARY:Quantum Tunnelling Splittings from Ring-Polymer Instanton Theory -
  Adam Reid (CUC3)
DTSTART:20111028T113000Z
DTEND:20111028T120000Z
UID:TALK32926@talks.cam.ac.uk
CONTACT:Dr Mark Miller
DESCRIPTION:This talk provides a brief overview of how the Feynman path in
tegral expression for the partition function can be used to calculate quan
tum tunnelling splittings. The 'ring polymer' isomorphism and the 'instan
ton' solutions to the equations of motion will also be covered. The talk
will close with a discussion of the application of these ideas to water cl
 usters.
