DESCRIPTION:Regulation of body weight has a very strong genetic and evolut
ionary component. In the current context of ‘obesity epidemic’\, it be
comes vital to disentangle the contribution of gene variation on body weig
ht\, from that of complex environmental influences. There have been signif
icant advances in genomic technologies in recent years\, aiding our unders
tanding of human genetic variation. Applying these new technologies to fin
d novel genes for body size will be presented\, and current understanding
of the biology of weight regulation will be discussed.
