DESCRIPTION:Emergence and reduction can be compatible\, despite the widesp

 oint for one major example from physics: phase transitions in statistical 
 mechanics. The\nreconciliation of emergence and reduction turns on subtle 
 uses of infinite limits\, which I will discuss.
