DESCRIPTION:Modern day electronic devices rely on the interplay of two eff
ects: strongly interacting electrons and quantum mechanics. Starting from
classical physics we first use practical demonstrations to explore how an
assembly of interacting particles obey very different laws of motion to a
lone particle. Secondly\, we outline the counterintuitive ramifications of
quantum mechanics for electrons. Finally\, we combine these effects to un
derstand the phenomena driving modern day electronics\, and address recent
experiments that could inspire the next generation of devices.
