DESCRIPTION:I present numerical simulations of disc-planet interactions wh
ere the\nplanet opens a gravitationally unstable gap in an otherwise gravi
tationally\nstable disc. In our disc models\, as the gap becomes more unst
able the\nplanet migrates outwards more rapidly. Our results suggest that
standard\ntype II migration\, applicable to giant planets in non-self-grav
itating\nviscous discs\, is likely to be significantly modified in massive
discs when\ngravitational instabilities associated with the gap occur. I
will also\npresent recent 3D simulations on gap stability.
