DESCRIPTION:Strongly interacting fermions at finite density are infamously
hard to treat. Gauge/gravity duality gives a way of studying them in a co
ntrolled environment. For such studies to be reliable it is important that
the models are eventually embedded in M-theory (or string theory). In thi
s talk I will describe how to look for some of the most basic features of
fermionic finite-density states in M-theory\, such as the occurrence of Fe
rmi surfaces\, and describe the wider implications of our recent intriguin
 g results on these objects.
