DESCRIPTION:Environmental collapse is dooming unless quick and effective a
ction is taken at international level. Not only climate change could resha
pe the geography of the planet (CO2 emissions peaked again in 2010) but al
so\nvital natural resources are getting scarcer while population has yet t
o increase another 2 Bn people by 2050. In that context\, understanding ho
w we produce goods\, food and energy from a material and economic\nperspec
tive is crucial to answer the question: Can we satisfy the increasing worl
d’s population needs while preserving the environment?\n\nThis research
analyses the material flows of the economy from a physical and economic ap
proach and suggests a “Regenerative Economy”. Similar to the concept o
f a fully recycling economy\, it integrates the material\nflows of the eco
nomy together with those of the environment (i.e. the biogeochemical cycle
s). The presentation enunciates the regenerative concepts and its analytic
al framework. Finally\, it briefly reflects on the ethical implications of
the current economic against a regenerative one.\n\n*Note about the talk:
