DESCRIPTION:The bible is the book of God’s story and science enables us
to “read” the Earth’s story. Here we look at the role of the oceans
in the Earth’s story\, in particular their role in climate change. Chang
es in the ocean can dramatically affect the climate\, due to atmosphere-oc
ean interactions. Some past changes in climate have been rapid\, taking pl
ace over decades\, with the oceans – specifically the North Atlantic –
playing a key role. The role of the North Atlantic in today’s climate a
nd how its behaviour is being monitored will be discussed. Present day cha
nges are being driven by human beings and will in turn affect humanity. Sc
ientific understanding and ethical consequences converge in how we respond
to the changes. Biblical teaching on how the Earth’s story is part of G
od’s story provides a basis for that response.
