DESCRIPTION:The “Problem of Evil” is often treated by Anglo-American p
hilosophers as a timeless propositional conundrum around the "Inconsistent
Triad": God is omnipotent\, God is omniscient\, God is benevolent. In thi
s talk I attempt to reconnect the Problem of Evil to its wider context in
contemporary thought (Max Weber)\, in contemporary philosophy (Susan Niema
n)\, in religion in general\, and in Christianity in particular. I argue
that the Inconsistent Triad is best understood as a failed Thought Experim
ent\, and that God\, no less than the Devil\, is in the detail.
