DESCRIPTION:Whilst all computer scientists are aware that multicore proces
 sors are very much on the rise\, many are less aware of some of the other 
 parallel technologies which are in a modern machine. Using the rendering o
 f the Mandelbrot set as an example\, I will track the evolution of the par
 allel capabilities of consumer hardware\, starting with Intel's SSE\, movi
 ng on to multicore and hyperthreading\, and finishing with a look at moder
 n GPGPU architectures\, such as NVIDIA's CUDA.
