DESCRIPTION:*Abstract* \n\nThe combination of digital audio recording and
editing with simple means of worldwide distribution has opened up new poss
ibilities for academics. It is possible to reach very large audiences with
out having to produce the infotainment beloved of conventional radio commi
ssioners. Most academics are content to leave any audio recording and edit
ing to technical 'experts'\, but new technology makes audio production alm
ost as straightforward as word processing. Too many universities are simpl
y recording conventional lectures and distributing them un-edited on iTune
sU. The academic of the future should be adept in recording\, shaping\, an
d editing their own audio content. \n\n*About the speaker*\n\nNigel Warbur
