DESCRIPTION:*The Cambridge Screen Media Group welcomes film critic Anthony
Lane to Trinity Hall.* \n\nThe main event of the evening will be a screen
ing of Jean Renoir's 1936 film _Partie de campagne_ (39 minutes). This wil
l be followed by a short lecture on the film\, and on the debt that it owe
s to Maupassant's 1881 story of the same name. After a period of discussi
on\, there will then be a chance\, for those who wish to stay\, to view an
other Maupassant adaptation: _La Maison Tellier_\, the central section of
Max Ophuls's portmanteau film of 1952\, _Le Plaisir_.\n\nMany of you will
know Anthony Lane from his wide-ranging\, ever-insightful and frequently
hilarious film reviews\, which have been appearing in the _New Yorker_ sin
ce 1993. \n\nThe event is open to the public and free of charge.
