DESCRIPTION:The SAURON survey of 72 local early type galaxies (ETGs) revea
led an unexpected dichotomy of properties that depend on their specific an
gular momentum. Intrinsic shape\, the nature of decoupled cores\, age\, ma
ss-to-light ratio and ionised gas properties were all found to be signific
antly different for the ETGs with low specific angular momentum. I will su
mmarise the SAURON survey and present the first results a complete\, volum
e limited survey of 260 ETGs which give us a representative view of the Un
iverse and lead to a re-evaluation of Hubble's tuning fork diagram and the
  physical processes that shape galaxies.\n
