DESCRIPTION:*How a university provider worked in collaboration with partne
r schools to develop new approaches to 'Teaching _for_ Diversity'*\n\nIn t
he new policy environment schools will have to take increasing responsibil
ity for initial teacher training. Some have interpreted this as a threat t
o university providers (HEIs). However\, the future need not involve an ei
 ther/or approach. \n\n_'Teaching *for* Diversity'_\, explored understandin
gs of what diversity means in schools and how it can impact on teachers' p
ractice and pupil development. It contrasted 'strand based' approaches to
diversity with broader understandings relating to pupils' life stories.\n\
nThe approach was co-constructed by schools and the HEI (Canterbury Christ
Church University) and each brought different strengths to the table. The
project offers lessons on how schools and universities can work in partne
rship to deliver outstanding teacher training. \n\n*Key Questions*\n# What
is “Learning to Teach in Diverse settings?”\n# How can schools and un
iversities collaborate to deliver outstanding Initial Teacher Education (I
TE)?\n# What lessons can we learn as we move to an increasingly school bas
ed system of ITE?\n\n*Who should attend?*\n# Anyone interested in diversit
y in education\n# Anyone interested in policy changes relating to Initial
Teacher Education and new school-based/school-centred models\n# Trainee te
