DESCRIPTION:On Monday November 14\, Jonathan Derbyshire - philosopher\, li
 terary journalist and current Culture Editor of the New Statesman - will b
 e giving an exclusive talk about religion in the public sphere. He will di
 scuss\, among other things\, the French republican model of laïcité and 
 current debates within\nthe UK on the place of religion in public life. He
  will also comment and analyse recent public pronouncements by the Archbis
 hop of Canterbury on\nthe public role of religion.\n\nDerbyshire - who bef
 ore joining the New Statesman was a philosophy lecturer at Anglia Ruskin a
 nd a contributing editor of Granta - is a rising star of the British magaz
 ine scene and has been described as an 'atheist whom people of all faiths 
 can engage with'. \n\nHis writing has appeared in the Daily Telegraph\, Fi
 nancial Times\, The Guardian\, the New York Sun\, Prospect\, The Times Lit
 erary Supplement and Time Out.\n\nThe event is free and open to the whole 
 university. There will be wine and cheese at the event. \n\nDIRECTIONS TO

  Walk to the end of the quad and turn left so that you enter F staircase.
