DESCRIPTION:Dr. Altinay will present his book *Global Civics*. The simple 
 yet challenging goal of this book is to deliberate the legitimacy\, and ad
 vance the feasibility\, of an important new concept—the notion of "globa
 l civics." We cannot achieve the international cooperation that is needed 
 for a globalizing and interdependent century without embracing and impleme
 nting this important concept.\n\nThe first section of Global Civics is a p
 resentation of the overall idea itself\; the second section consists of di
 verse assessments from around the world of the concept and where it curren
 tly stands. The third section discusses various options for a global civic
 s curriculum.\n\nHakan Altinay is a Senior Fellow in Global Economy and De
 velopment at the Brookings Institution\, Washington DC\, and is former Exe
 cutive Director of the Open Society Foundation–Turkey.
