SUMMARY:Probing micro-mechanical deformation behaviour with high resolutio
n electron backscatter diffraction. - Benjamin Britton\, Department of Mat

DESCRIPTION:Understanding the behaviour of materials on the small scale is
key to understanding and improving materials. In Oxford we have been deve
loping a technique based upon crystal diffraction in the humble scanning e
lectron microscope which can be used to extract elastic strain and lattice
rotations with high precision (1E-4 in strain and 1E-4 rads in rotation).
In this talk\, I will present an overview of the technique and its use in
aiding our understanding of the micromechanical behaviour of near crystal
 line materials.
