DESCRIPTION:This talk will introduce some of the research of the Cambridge
  Volcanology Group over the past decade\, focusing on the development and 
 application of new techniques for measuring volcanic plumes. Dr Clive Oppe
 nheimer will then explore the impacts that the work has had\, especially o
 n the volcano observatory community responsible for volcanic hazard assess
 ment and touch on the complexities and broader policy implications of mana
 ging volcanic risk.\n\n----------------------------------\n\n\nThese semin
 ars aim to bring together a diverse range of individuals from the humaniti
 es as well as social and natural sciences to discuss the public policy imp
 lications of their work and research.\n\nThey will take place on Fridays b
 etween 1-2pm\, throughout the Lent term\n\nEach talk will last 25-30 minut
 es and will be followed by open discussion.\n\n
