DESCRIPTION:In order to realise the enormous potential for bioenergy produ
ction from microalgae\, several challenges must be overcome\, including en
suring that there is a net carbon balance\, and that it is economically vi
able.\n\nOne way in which this might be addressed is to consider developin
g algae as industrial biotechnology platforms for production of high value
\, low volume compounds. As well as providing an initial income stream\, i
t will also enable agronomic 'know-how' for industrial algal cultivation t
 o be developed.\n\n--------------------------------------------------\n\nT
hese seminars aim to bring together a diverse range of individuals from th
e humanities as well as social and natural sciences to discuss the public
policy implications of their work and research.\n\nThey will take place on
Fridays between 1-2pm\, throughout the Lent term. \n\nEach talk will last
25-30 minutes and will be followed by open discussion.
LOCATION: Cambridge University Engineering Department\, Lecture Room 4
