DESCRIPTION:Samuel Messick\, one of the godfathers of modern validity theo
 ry\, claimed that the evaluation of consequences is fundamental to validit
 y. Whether consequences should be in\, or out\, of validity theory has bee
 n controversial ever since. This session will explore arguments for and ag
 ainst the integration of ‘consequences’ alongside similar debates rega
 rding reliability\, fairness\, social policy and the law. Participants wil
 l be encouraged to identify appropriate boundaries for the concept of vali
 dity.
