DESCRIPTION:The income distribution of industrialised countries became les
s unequal during the 20th century as a result of trade union power and gov
ernment intervention. The globalisation of markets and the fragmentation o
f production have undermined this. Attention is turning to the concern tha
t large corporations have to maintain good reputations with consumers. Inc
reasingly it is this\, rather than direct pressure from governments or tra
de unions\, that offers the best chance of upholding decent labour standar
ds. How is this being exploited?
