DESCRIPTION:In this talk\, I discuss a new subtraction scheme for next-to-
 leading order QCD calculations. The scheme is based on the momentum mappin
 g and on the splitting functions derived in the context of an improved par
 ton shower formulation. Compared to standard schemes\, the new scheme feat
 ures a significantly smaller number of subtraction terms\; it equally prom
 ised to facilitate the matching of NLO calculations with parton showers. I
  present details of the scheme and discuss applications on a variety of sc
 attering processes at hadron and lepton colliders.
