SUMMARY:Molecular Model Solutions - Dr Jonathan Goodman\, University of Ca
 mbridge
DTSTART:20120209T190000Z
DTEND:20120209T200000Z
UID:TALK35325@talks.cam.ac.uk
CONTACT:John O'Toole
DESCRIPTION:For more than a hundred years\, molecular models representing
atoms as spheres and connecting them with bonds have given insights into m
olecular structure and molecular reactivity. \n\nWhy do these simple model
s work so well? Are they still useful? The possibilities\, the power\, the
limitations\, and the dangers of molecular models are all important today
.\n\nJonathan Goodman is a Reader in Chemistry at the University of Cambri
dge\, Deputy Director of the Unilever Centre for Molecular Science Informa
tics\, and a Fellow of Clare College\, where he is Director of Studies in
Chemistry. His research links experimental and computational studies of mo
lecular structure and reactivity\, with applications in diverse areas such
as interpreting analytical data\, designing pharmaceuticals and making be
tter soup. \n\nFree admission. \nOpen to the public. \nSuitable for GCSE s
tudents.\nNo tickets\, so arrive early to get a good seat.
