DESCRIPTION:The Seminar: A discussion of the use of a Systematic approach
to Information Quality Management in Asset-Intensive Businesses as a highl
y effective enabler \nof Performance Improvement. Productive avenues for c
ollaboration and research may become apparent.\n\nThe Thesis: A very effic
ient way to achieve positive business performance improvement is to implem
ent an information quality management system progressively releasing bottl
enecks in the business. Deficient quality of information is a major source
of error\, fault\, waste and delay\, the elimination of which goes straig
ht to the bottom line. The QMS and other components needed for this busine
ss change process exist and are well-developed.\n\nThe Puzzle: If it is so
obvious\, why do enterprises struggle so with information quality problem
s? Managers feel IM productivity is falling and projects seem high-risk an
d complex\, needing IT specialists to deliver them.\n\nThe Solution: Make
information the responsibility of line management not IT. Align signals to
management with the goals of the business\, empower them to respond and h
old them to account for the Quality of Information wherever they find them
selves in the organisation: \n* for information produced to be fit for pur
pose at decision-points in the future in whatever context\n* for informati
on used to support good decision-making even though produced in the past i
n whatever context).\n\nThe Strategy: Start where you are and make progres
s step-by-step. Use a practical business change framework supportive of co
ntinuous information management improvement aligned to the business' goals
.\n\nThe Tools: Enterprise Architecture Framework\, Information Management
Maturity Model\, Business and Data Modelling Frameworks\, and the accumul
ated knowledge and experience of others enshrined in standards: maximising
flexibility\, re-usability\, interoperability and independence of past or
  current technology.\n
