DESCRIPTION:Piron's problem in the foundations of quantum mechanics asks\n
 which lattices are those of closed subspaces of Hilbert space. We\nsolve a
  natural categorification\, by characterizing the category of\ninjective *
 -homomorphisms between commutative C*-subalgebras of\nvarious C*-algebras\
 , namely C*-algebras of operators on separable\nHilbert spaces\, any finit
 e-dimensional C*-algebra\, and any commutative\nC*-algebra. This is an imp
 ortant step in a promising ongoing approach\nto a noncommutative generalis
 ation of Gelfand's duality between\ncompact Hausdorff spaces and commutati
 ve C*-algebras\, that we will\noutline.
