DESCRIPTION:I will give account of a recent paper and ongoing projects in
which the general implications of symmetries in the case of time-dependent
field states are studied. In particular\, I will be interested in field c
onfigurations that spontaneously “probe” the symmetry—or one of the
symmetries—in the sense that they evolve in time along a symmetry direct
ion in field space. This situation should capture certain essential featur
es of generic early universe inflationary models without committing too mu
ch with their microphysical details. The same formalism applies also to ot
her—apparently disparate—situations\, such as many-body systems at fin
ite chemical potential\, or more generally\, at `finite conserved charge'.
