DESCRIPTION:I will discuss a path-integral representation of the recently
introduced class of continuous matrix product states (cMPS) for 1-D quantu
m fields\, and explain how this reformulation allows a consistent generali
zation of the class to arbitrary dimensions. The physical states are found
to arise through a continuous measurement process by a lower dimensional
auxiliary field\, that has Lorentz symmetry and is necessarily fermionic.
The resultant physical states naturally obey entropy area laws\, and the e
xpectation values of observables are determined by the dissipative dynamic
s of the boundary field. The class provides powerful analytical and comput
ational tools to describe the physics of strongly interacting field system
s in two and higher spatial dimensions.
