DESCRIPTION:Research on co-operative learning methods has long established
that pupils learn mathematics significantly better if they work in small
groups structured in a specific way. That is\, they learn best if they wor
k in 4-member groups toward a common goal\, and if achieving that goal dep
ends on the individual learning of all team members.\n Recent work
in the UK has added to co-operative learning the use of embedded multimedi
a\, brief video segments to model co-operative behaviours and show how the
y apply in many contexts. This presentation will review existing research
on co-operative learning in maths and will describe a 40-school randomised
study currently under way evaluating the technology adaptation.
