DESCRIPTION:In the Origin of Species\, Darwin has focussed on explaining t
 he animal adaptations to the physical environment. Over the last century\,
  behavioural biologists have documented the extent to which animal societi
 es differ and have demonstrated the impact of the social environment that 
 individuals live in on most evolutionary and ecological processes. The lec
 ture will provide an introduction to the diversity of animal societies\, e
 xplore their impact on evolution and ecology and assess their relevance to
  understanding the origins of human society.
