DESCRIPTION:The Darwinian postulate\, that all animals are evolutionarily
related\, has been massively supported by\ngenetic and other biological ex
periments over the past several decades showing the conservation\nof gene
structure and some functions in even distantly related species. This opens
opportunities\nfor improving the quality of animal models of human biolog
y\, for the purpose of biomedical research.\nSome of the expermaints that
may become possible in the foreseeable future\, raise ethical issues\nthat
require vigilance from the scientific community and from research regulat
ors. These topics were\nrecently summarised in a report from the Academy o
 f Medical Sciences ( http://www.acmedsci.ac.uk/\np99puid222.html )
