DESCRIPTION:Although granular materials are everywhere in our daily life\,
our knowledge for their mechanics is still limited.\nThey behave as gas\,
liquid or solid depending on their packing fraction. Their bulk behaviour
is also strongly affected by the constituent grains properties. We have n
ot had any general frameworks to analyse such problems yet.\nIn my talk I
would like to introduce some existing theoretical frameworks both from phy
sics side and from engineering side\, including my current work in Cavendi
sh Lab. I would also like to introduce some interesting applications where
granular mechanics play an essential role.\n
