 of Cambridge)

DESCRIPTION:_In this talk I will motivate the study of the wave equation o
n black hole spacetimes as a first step towards stability and instability
results for black holes._\n\n_The level of the talk will be introductory\,
beginning with a (very brief and basic) discussion of Lorentzian geometry
\, the Einstein Field Equations and the method of vector field multipliers
._\n\n_Thereafter I'll discuss my work on the linear stability of the Ker
r-Newman family of spacetimes in very broad strokes. Time permitting\, thi
s will lead into the geometric microlocalisation of the problem._
