DESCRIPTION:*Abstract*\n\nThis session will describe the work of King’s 
 College London in achieving sustainable refurbishment over the last 8 year
 s at its Strand campus in central London. The phased series of projects in
 cludes the southern wing of the College's original 1829 building (winner o
 f the 2006-7 Green Gown Award for Sustainable Construction)\, an adjacent 
 1970's building and the late 18th century east wing of the iconic Somerset
  House. Topics covered will include:\n\n* making best use of the building
 ’s original character and design\n* introducing new technologies and con
 trols\n* strategies to minimise the need for cooling and heating\n* integr
 ating with campus services and transport strategies\n* lessons learnt for
