 rovides energy in a world of increasing demand and increasing complexity. 
 Everyone wants secure\, reliable\, and affordable energy\, but climate cha
 nge\, resource scarcity\, and technical innovation are transforming the en
 ergy landscape.\n\nThere are many possible pathways to a sustainable energ
 y future\, and each presents unresolved technical challenges that will inf
 luence the time global-scale asset and infrastructure deployment that will
  take place over the next decades. BP’s energy portfolio demonstrates ma
 ny of the research challenges in this arena – in which interesting Physi
 cs problems appear in applied context.\n\nThe physical scale of the World
 ’s energy needs will be reviewed\, and some examples of research challen
 ges drawn from Enhanced Oil Recovery and Carbon Storage\, through Remote S
 ensing and on to Biofuels will be presented.\n\n\nThis is the first CUPS e
 vent of the Lent 2012 Term\, and we hope to see many of you there!
