ynamic limit? - Dr N.J. (Ned) Ekins-Daukes\, Imperial College London

DESCRIPTION:Conventional silicon based photovoltaic solar panels typically
convert sunlight to electricity with efficiencies up to 20%\, yet the the
rmodynamic limit for solar energy conversion sits at 87%. The physical rea
sons behind the relatively low power conversion efficiency of most solar c
ells will be presented together with an insight into the possible routes t
o demonstrate highly efficient solar cells that can approach the thermodyn
amic limit.\n\nTalk is free for members\, and £2 for non-members.
