DESCRIPTION:Dr John Richer will be giving a talk on his work as the UK's p
 roject scientist for ALMA - the Atacama Large Millimeter Array. ALMA is an
  international partnership between Europe\, North America\, East Asia and 
 the Republic of Chile to build the most ambitious ground-based telescope y
 et and the largest astronomical project in existence. It will enable trans
 formational research into the physics of the cold Universe\, probe the fir
 st stars and galaxies\, and directly image the formation of planets. Dr Ri
 cher is a University Reader researching star formation and a Fellow of Chu
 rchill College.
