SUMMARY:The LHC Project - The Higgs Boson and Beyond - Professor Andy Park
 er (University of Cambridge)
DTSTART:20120223T190000Z

DESCRIPTION:The talk will review the status of the search for the Higgs bo
son at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. Once the Higgs is discovered\, o
r ruled out\, attention will focus on revealing the physics believed to un
derlie the standard model. Popular theoretical ideas include supersymmetri
c particles and the existence of extra space dimensions. The talk will dis
cuss some research going on in Cambridge to search for strong gravity effe
 cts\, such as black holes\, predicted in extra-dimensional models.\n\nProf
Andy Parker is the leader of the Cambridge High Energy Physics group\, an
d a member of the ATLAS collaboration at CERN. For 6 years he was the proj
ect leader for the ATLAS Inner Detector. His research interests are in exp
erimental searches for new physics phenomena\, beyond the current standard
  model of particles and forces.\n
