DESCRIPTION:I will talk about some of my own experiences of using simulati
 on studies to understand and evaluate statistical methods. I will suggest 
 some ways to classify and describe simulation studies\, and construct an a
 nalogy with randomised trials. I will then give some examples from researc
 h in missing data\, including the difficult situation where simulation stu
 dies are used to compare methods that make different untestable assumption
 s.\n
