DESCRIPTION:Novel non-invasive prenatal tests using a blood sample from th
 e mother can determine the sex and health of the growing baby from as earl
 y as 7 weeks gestation. These tests have profound implications for the cho
 ices available to women at early stages of pregnancy. These technologies a
 re likely to be adopted on a global basis\, but their implications for the
  developing world\, particularly Asia\, have been largely unexplored.\n\nH

 nership with the Humanitarian Centre as part of their "Global Health Year"

 Margaret Sleeboom-Faulkner\,* Reader in Anthropology from the University o
 f Sussex\, who will speak on birth preferences in Asian countries.\n\n*Who
