DESCRIPTION:Jacked piles remain a desirable niche in geotechnical engineer
ing. Press-in piles are silently jacked into the ground\, requiring only s
mall rigs to do so – making them ideal for urban or limited-access const
ruction projects. Jacked piles excel where the ground conditions are soft.
For hard ground sites\, additional techniques (such as water injection) c
an be used to reduce the installation loads\, allowing press-in piles to b
e used. Scale modelling of the water injection technique was completed on
the geotechnical centrifuge to investigate the mechanism of this process a
nd the effects\, if any\, on ultimate pile properties.\n\nIn this seminar\
, the different technologies will be introduced and the centrifuge modelli
ng explained. The governing mechanism behind the process will be presented
before concluding with the suitability of the process for pile installati
 on.\n
