DESCRIPTION:How does the Drosophila skin withstand the internal hydrostati
c pressure? The skin of the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster produces an
extracellular matrix\, the cuticle that among others serves as an exoskele
ton withstanding the internal hydrostatic pressure and thereby allowing lo
comotion. The cuticle elements responsible for this function and their ass
embly have been unidentified before we stumbled on it. In my presentation\
, I will report on Alas and Schlaff that are two essential components cons
tructing and implementing\, respectively\, the skeletal property of the cu
 ticle.
