DESCRIPTION:Test-configurations are certain degenerations of projective\nm
 anifolds\, which are used in the definition of K-stability\, which in\ntur
 n is related to the existence of special metrics. I will explain\nhow filt
 rations of the homogeneous coordinate ring of a projective\nmanifold can b
 e thought of as sequences of test-configurations\, and\nthat they encode t
 he limiting behavior of these sequences. Such\nfiltrations arise naturally
  when studying the Calabi flow\, or when\ntrying to minimize the Calabi fu
 nctional. I will also discuss how\nfiltrations can be used to give a stren
 gthening of the notion of\nK-stability\, and why this is desirable.\n
